The Effects of 9/11
Even over a decade later, security levels in U.S. airports are far higher now than ever before thanks to the events of 9/11. Strict guidelines have been implemented by the TSA, and passengers are not allowed to break with these rules under any circumstances. That includes knowing exactly what they can carry with them on the plane, and which items are prohibited for hand and check-in luggage altogether. This item was so special, that the man didn’t want to part ways with it at all.
Security On High Alert
After September 11 2001, airport security has been beefed up across the country, and often, this can lead to frustrating encounters between officers and everyday passengers. These discussions could result in flight delays and generally slows down the travel process. This might be for the betterment of all travelers, but for some people who have mistakenly traveled with a sentimental item possibly containing something that is on the travel ban list (like ashes in an urn), the result can be an unexpectedly tearful situation.
