Even over a decade later, security levels in U.S. airports are far higher now than ever before thanks to the events of 9/11. Strict guidelines have been implemented by the TSA, and passengers are not allowed to break with these rules under any circumstances. That includes knowing exactly what they can carry with them on the plane, and which items are prohibited for hand and check-in luggage altogether. These discussions could result in flight delays and generally slows down the travel process.
