From the 1970s onward, Joel’s over 150 million record sales made him one of the United States’ most successful artists. His Greatest Hits collection is one the country’s most bought albums ever. The Bronx-born artist departed from high school prematurely to begin studying music. Columbia Records finally agreed to sign him in 1972. Joel won 5 of the 23 total Grammy nominations he has received.
