Social Security recipients in Connecticut and nationwide will receive their December benefits on schedule despite recent government disruptions. Approximately 20% of Connecticut’s population, over 708,000 residents, rely on these payments. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that distributions will follow the usual schedule, with payments issued on three Wednesdays according to birth dates. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive payments on the first business day of December.

SSI assists individuals with limited income who are elderly, blind, or disabled, including children with qualifying disabilities. SSI recipients will receive their December payment on Monday, December 1, and due to scheduling conventions, may sometimes receive two payments in a month. Future payments for January and February will adjust for holidays, ensuring no disruption in beneficiary support.

All Social Security recipients must now receive benefits electronically via direct deposit or Direct Express cards, a change initiated to enhance efficiency and security by eliminating paper checks. Nearly all beneficiaries receive funds accurately and on time. However, the SSA advises waiting three mailing days before contacting them if a payment delay occurs.

Eligibility for reduced Social Security begins at age 62, but delaying until full retirement age increases monthly benefits. Full retirement age varies by birth year, with those born in 1960 or later reaching it at 67. December marks the last month before a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment, reflecting inflation, benefits recipients in 2026. The SSA’s website provides detailed payment schedules and office locations for further assistance.
