The British show, What Not to Wear, was adapted by Americans, where Clinton Kelly and Stacy London provide makeup, wardrobe, and hair makeovers for participants. Amazingly, these clients do not end up being paid for their participation, but actually end up giving almost half their ‘earnings’. At the conclusion of every episode, contestants are handed a gift card worth $5,000 to purchase their new wardrobe with. According to one Redditor claiming to have been a contestant, they were instructed not to splurge, as there would be taxes to settle, which apparently came to $2,000!
